Deputy Assessor New Trier Township, Winnetka, IL The Township of New Trier seeks a full-time, onsite Deputy Assessor to assist township property owners with property assessment and tax issues. The Deputy Assessor reports to the Assessor. Start date: January 1, 2026. Hours: Mondays-Fridays: 9 am – 5:00 pm; Occasional attendance at evening meetings and events; some evening and week-end hours possible during appeal windows. Salary: $55,000, overtime exempt administrative role Benefits: The Township pays up to $1,500 a month towards health, Medicare supplement (if eligible, must elect Medicare), prescription drug, vision, and/or dental premiums for full-time employees and their dependents (as applicable). Employees are responsible for paying any additional premium costs associated with their selected plans through a payroll deduction. About the Role: The position requires daily contact with the public, particularly during appeal windows and when tax bills are issued. Other responsibilities include maintenance of property tax records and computer databases and serving as liaison to county-level offices (Cook County Assessor, Treasurer, and Board of Review), village zoning and permit departments, and community organizations. The Deputy Assessor prepares quarterly reports of Assessor’s Office activity for the Supervisor and Township Board of Trustees and manages the Assessor’s webpage. Qualifications: • The Cook County assessment system is complex, so this role requires strong verbal and written communication skills; • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment, such as copy machine, postage machine and printer; • Familiarity with Microsoft products and applications; • Experience in public administration, finance, real estate, or law (including paralegal experience) is a plus; • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects; • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is desirable, but equivalent experience will be considered; • Current or past residence in New Trier Township (or a neighboring Cook County Township) is also useful but not required; • Good interpersonal skills and excitement for constituent services; • Ability to relate to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, developmental, and socioeconomic backgrounds and to work with them in a fair, supportive, and cooperative manner; • Flexibility to attend and participate in periodic evening outreach events (majority of work will be during regular work hours).
