Vivid Art Gallery is hosting an exhibit for featured artist Sheila Arora during the month of March. Entitled Impromptu, it will show a variety of his newest work. Arora is a Chicago artist who paints large, colorful, spontaneous canvasses. Arora is a Chicago artist who gleans inspiration from the idiom that “less is more,” the result of a recent artistic epiphany. This exhibit is a collection of these more minimalist works, depicting scenes from the lakefront to the bustling downtown. There will be an opening reception for this exhibit on Friday, March 6th from 5-7 PM.

As the show’s title suggests, Arora does not plan her paintings ahead of time, instead seeing where her process takes her. Discussing her approach, she says, “it’s a conversation on the canvas that is sometimes wild, rebellious, mostly casual, half-organized and always well structured. I go for unexpected marks, awkward color palettes, and a composition that’s off-centered but balanced.” She finds tremendous value in this method, explaining that the “off the cuff” nature of the work “give the paintings life.”
