A Forty Year Kiss: An Evening with Nickolas Butler
Join The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) on Thursday, February 6 at 6:30 pm for an evening with Nickolas Butler as he discusses his new book, A Forty Year Kiss. From the bestselling author of Shotgun Lovesongs comes a rugged small-town novel for readers who still believe in sunset triumph and second chances. With impeccable writing, this feel-good book featuring adults in their 60s is a refreshing and hopeful love story, and a nuanced meditation on reconciling with the past. Leif Enger, bestselling author of Peace Like a River, says, "Nick Butler only writes good books, but this is the one that sticks most tightly in my brain and heart...It’s a book for the midnight optimist that is waiting inside us all.” Mr. Butler will be in conversation with Maxwell Gregory.

More About the Book: Charlie and Vivian were married for four years and divorced for 40, but Charlie never quite forgot her. Now, retired with no place to call home, he moves back to Wisconsin to see if he can find a new path forward for him and Vivian together. But Charlie still drinks too much, and although he has a beautiful home and plenty of money, he has no family to call his own and the loneliness cuts deep. Vivian’s life is filled with love, but money is tight, and she shares a small home with her daughter and granddaughters. She’s tired of being poor, of having no one to care for her, of always being responsible for someone else. When Charlie and Vivian find each other again, they find that falling back in love is the easy part. Forgiving each other—and creating a future together—will be the work of a lifetime.?
Nathan Hill, New York Times bestselling author of Wellness, says, "Thank you, Nickolas Butler, for writing a love story that feels so powerfully real, a story that captures the hope, grace, and joy of new love—but also the mistakes, scar tissue, and regret of past love.”
