About Us
We are a local independent bookstore that caters to our customers. With over 68,000 titles in our 5,000 sq. foot store, our book selection has something for everyone: fiction, travel, cooking, children's books, biographies, and many more. The twenty plus employees of The Book Stall are friendly and ready to help with special orders, book searches, and gift wrapping.
We are known for our many special events. We host literary and best-selling authors, sponsor reading groups, and connect writers and illustrators to area schools. In addition to a weekly children's storytime, we open our doors for live storytelling, comedy nights, book fairs, and more.
Established in 1940 as Chestnut Court, we became The Book Stall at Chestnut Court in 1986. We now operate as The Book Stall. Conveniently located next to the popular Peet's Coffee Shop, we are one of Chicagoland's busiest independent bookstores.
