Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
Vivid Art Gallery will be hosting an art opening for Featured Artist Tamar Kander on Friday, September 6th. The opening will run from 5-7 PM, is open to all and is free of charge.
Kander will be presenting work in her exhibit entitled “Second Summer.” An artist from the Bloomington, IN area, Tamar’s paintings are primarily non-representational and are influenced by landscape and architectural symbols. Kanderbegins her work with a formal idea of color and structure, which is loose but also predetermined. She then layers collage as well as different mediums to form the groundwork for the next stage. Using pigments as well as textural elements, she then builds up the surface to make it rich and evocative, progressing as if she is having a conversation with the painting. Adding color and line, she waits until the painting tells her how to proceed; it’s a back and forth process until she feels it is complete. To her, it is a constantly shifting process.
Regarding how she views her work, Tamar says, “I see it as a metaphor for experience and an expression of what I see and feel. My work comes from a place that reflects on one’s collective memory, specific thoughts, and associations that are unique to each person. My goal is to find beauty hidden in the mundanity of everyday life – the texture and hues of an old, crumbling wall; the reflection of water; the arch of a bridge – music offers influence as well, particularly classical, jazz, and the blues.”
Kander will be on hand at the First Friday to discuss her work and talk with visitors. Please stop by the gallery for the opening or during the month of September.
In addition to the opening at Vivid, the Hubbard Woods Design District will be hosting its First Friday event. Live music will play throughout the district and participating businesses will feature libations and special promotions.
