Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
Vivid Art Gallery will be hosting an art opening for Guest Exhibitor Sheila Arora on Friday, August 2nd. The opening will run from 4-7 PM, is open to all and is free of charge.
Arora will be presenting work in her exhibit entitled “Limitless.” A Highland Park artist, Sheila is in many ways unique in the way she approaches painting. To her, it is an endeavor that requires preparation through methods such as meditation, walking, and yoga. She finds inspiration in soaking up her surroundings and allowing the resulting emotions to naturally seep into her work. Sheila paints incessantly, with whatever materials she can find, until she is emotionally spent and there is nothing left for her to paint. Her works are defined by their natural mark making, awkward color palettes, and, as she describes it, messiness.
Regarding her latest paintings, she says, “I recently had a breakthrough in the way that I paint. Instead of my typical, expressive work, I experimented by allowing a painting to be minimal and spare. I actually found that with less on the canvas, there is actually more to enjoy because the colors and marks become the emphasis of the work. The paintings in this exhibit reflect this new world that has opened up to me and the subsequent change in my approach.”
Arora will be on hand at the First Friday to discuss her work and talk with visitors. Please stop by the gallery for the opening or during the gallery’s limited August hours, open Saturdays 11-5, to see this unique new work.
In addition to the opening at Vivid, the Hubbard Woods Design District will be hosting its First Friday event, with a theme of “Midsummer Chill.” Each participating store will have theme-related snacks on hand to give visitors a delicious way to cool off. In addition, live music will play throughout the district and participating businesses will feature other libations and special promotions.
