Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening

Vivid Art Gallery will host an art opening for represented artists Izzy Cho and Lainey Peltier on March 7th at its monthly First Friday event. Their exhibit, Echoes and Locations, explores the similarity in process that each goes through to create their very different artwork. The opening, which runs from 5-7 PM, is open to all and is free of charge. In addition to great art, there will also be refreshments at the gallery.
 
Both recent graduates of the School of the Art Institute’s Masters of Fine Arts program, Cho and Peltier are emerging artists in the Chicago area. Cho’s mixed media on paper work is meant to be a commentary on her Korean American heritage, celebrating earnest but humorous attempts to pay homage to her transnational upbringing. Peltier’s work, on the other hand, is focused on what she sees in the world around her. She alters and then rearranges what she observes as part of an open-ended exploration. While Peltier studied printmaking and works extensively in that medium, she has also recently begun painting. We are excited to present this newest work which she will be displaying in the March exhibit. 
 
While Cho and Peltier’s work is largely different in style and subject, it is similar in the way their work develops. Their processes examine repetition and mimicry, which serve as ways to dig deeper into the meaning of what each artist is exploring in their work. The repetition allows for contemplation and the opportunity to view the same scene from multiple perspectives, giving each artwork an additional layer of depth. Cho’s work includes Korean characters and imagery, while Peltier’s work includes various depictions and interpretations of water.
