Vivid Art Gallery

Vivid Art Gallery will be putting a different spin on its monthly First Friday art opening on August 2. The gallery will be presenting a series of artist demonstrations and talks, giving visitors the opportunity to meet a number of artists and learn about the artwork on display. The opening, which runs from 5-8 PM, is open to all and is free of charge. In addition to great art, there will be refreshments, including the gallery’s signature “Monet Mule” cocktail.
 
Six different artists will be at the gallery throughout the evening. These will include three artists performing demonstrations. Matt Schaefer will be painting outdoor Hubbard Woods street scenes in his colorful expressionist style from the sidewalk in front of the gallery. Lisa Goesling will demonstrate her scratchboard technique, with which she creates striking black and white representational and abstract pieces. Julie Cowan will bring some of her lithographs, explaining her technique while adding colored pencil and pastel highlights to the work.  
 
There will also be three artists who will be giving talks throughout the evening, speaking about their technique and one or several of their pieces.  Sue Jacoby will be discussing her process for creating her multi-layered landscape paintings, using her recent work “Miraflores” as an example. Photographer Larry Simon will talk about his “blurred image” work from a recent trip to Lisbon. Janet Trierweiler will describe her process of creating an expressionist painting, which she describes as a “happening.”   
 
Speaking about this new take on First Friday, Vivid owner Cynthia Burr says, “I’ve found that many of our customers want to learn more about the art that they are interested in when looking to buy a piece. I think this evening is a great opportunity to accomplish that because it allows people to meet some of the artists and to see how art is made. We’re also hoping that some of our collectors will come in to meet the artists whose work they have purchased, which will make their purchases all the more special.”
 
In addition to the art opening at Vivid, a number of other businesses in the Hubbard Woods Design and Dine district will once again celebrate First Fridays. Along with a “Cocktail Hop” and special promotions from each store, the district will also feature the a food truck. We look forward to seeing you there!
