Vivid Art Gallery
Vivid Art Gallery will host an art opening for Featured Artist Debra Delbecq on Friday, May 5th from 5-7 PM. The event is open to all and is free of charge. In addition to great art, there will also be refreshments and live music at the gallery.
Debra lives on a farm in rural Indiana, drawing inspiration from the surrounding fields she can see from her studio. Her work reflects the varying seasons, with the weather and changing colors influencing both movement and her color palette. Describing her process, Debra says, “It’s always about what is going on around me. My studio is on the second floor of my 1860s brick farmhouse. It’s up high and overlooks my vegetable and flower garden, so from there I have an aerial view of my land. I can easily observe changes such as growth, blankets of snow, the wind, the rain and even sounds. For example, a few years ago a huge flock of geese had landed and were feasting in the field. I heard them; it sounded so loud. Happenings like this are how I record moments on canvas; I generally use rhythm and repetition as my tools to give the painting energy and excitement.”
Debra’s uses extensive color in her work, which is influenced by her time teaching photography and color theory. Teaching color theory sharpened her knowledge of how color interacts and why she would see hues differently from her brush to the canvas. Further discussing color in her work, she says, “Painting is about the collision of colors and that’s why I love to paint. It’s never boring, you just have endless options. I do want color to speak first along with the other elements of art, which include line, shape and texture. Honestly, reading color is such a personal thing. We all see it differently and with different emotional reactions.”
Debra Delbecq’s work will be on display throughout the month of May. Please stop by the gallery during the month to see her exhibit.
