Vivid Art Gallery is hosting a special exhibit featuring the work of represented artist Matthew Schaefer. Entitled Journey of Intention, it will show a variety of his newest work. Schaefer is an Evanston artist who can be seen around town drawing in his sketch book. He then translates his sketches to inform his paintings, which are created spontaneously, with each brushstroke influencing the next. This exhibit is a collection of those works, depicting scenes from the lakefront to the bustling downtown. Please note that there will not be an opening for this exhibit.
 
As the show’s title suggests, the exhibit reflects an artistic journey that Matthew has embarked on in recent months, as his art continues to develop in new ways. The paintings in the exhibit are large scale and colorful, drawing viewers into the work. Schaefer’s work has always been very spontaneous, with each brushstroke influencing the next. While this show encompasses urban and lakeside scenes, Matthew also creates more nature-oriented abstract landscapes as well as minimalistic abstract works.
