Join The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) on Saturday, January 27 at 10:30 am for a special story time that's fun for the whole family! Journalist and poet Rick Telander is signing and sharing his new book, Sweet Dreams: Poems and Paintings for the Child Abed.  This book is a gift to all children, that will amuse, intrigue, and above all, soothe any child before sleep. While this book is perfect for kids ages 3 to 6, children of all ages (and even adults!) will delight in the poetry and illustrations. 
 
More About the Book: With 42 original poems by Rick Telander and an equal number of full-page, color illustrations from artists all over the world, Sweet Dreams is a beautiful, easy-to-read poetry collection in the fashion of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic, A Child’s Garden of Verses.  Mr. Telander began writing the poems when he was sick in bed many years ago and has transformed them into a support for young boys and girls who must make that ordinary yet sometimes frightening transition from waking reality to the land of Nod.

More About the Author: Rick Telander is the senior sports columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and a former senior writer for Sports Illustrated and ESPN: the Magazine. In 2018, he was awarded the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence by the Society of Professional Journalists, and in 2021, he was inducted into the National Sportswriters Hall of Fame. He is the author of ten books, including Heaven Is a Playground.
 
For Sweet Dreams, Mr. Telander painted the cover, the inside icons, all the luna moths inside the book, and one secret illustration for a poem (under pseudonym).  He can tell you which one, but it’s fun for people to try to figure it out!
