Join Go Green Winnetka on a tour of Lakeshore Recycling System’s state-of-the-art single-stream recycling facility near Midway Airport, which opened in March 2016. The 40,000 square-foot facility, which is designed to handle more than 110,000 tons of high-grade residential and commercial single-stream recyclables, sorts, separates, and allocates more than 20 tons of waste per hour. Not only does this facility’s innovative technology positively impact the environment, but it benefits our communities by creating more than 100 jobs in Cook County. With these new innovations, LRS controls and processes more than 2.2 million tons of waste material annually, more than any other privately-held company in Illinois.
