More About the Book: Your kid just came out to you, and amid the flurry of emotion you might feel, you know you would do anything to protect their health and happiness. And you are not alone! Coach, advocate, and podcast host, Heather Hester, combines an honest retelling of her own son’s coming-out experience with wide-ranging research, conversations with professionals, and the experiences of other families to provide the ultimate guidebook for parents embarking on this journey. Ms. Hester guides parents and caregivers through the transformative steps of Embrace, Educate, Empower, and Love so they can support their teen with open arms and hearts.
Kate Versage, LGBTQ+ life coach and expressive arts therapist, says, "Heather Hester has written a beautiful and poignant must-read for any parent or caregiver raising an LGBTQ+ identified youth, no matter where they or you are on your journey. Infused with first-hand wisdom and transparency, Heather has the ability to tackle tough and realistic issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and their families in such a warm and inviting way."
More About the Author: Heather Hester is the founder of Chrysalis Mama, which provides support and education to parents and allies of LGBTQIA adolescents, teenagers, and young adults. She is also the creator and host of the podcast Just Breathe: Parenting your LGBTQ Teen. As an advocate and coach, she believes the coming out process is equal parts beautiful and messy. She works with her clients to let go of fear and feelings of isolation so that they can reconnect with themselves and their children with awareness and compassion. Heather also works within organizations via specialized programming to bring education and empowerment with a human touch. Married to the funniest guy she’s ever known and the mother of four extraordinary kids (two of whom are LGBTQIA) and one sassy mini bernedoodle, Heather believes in being authentic and embracing the messiness.
