A new Senior Snowflakes program is currently under way at the Township. The program is a pilot that includes a small group of seniors who live within New Trier Township. There are currently 27 beautiful hand made snowflakes available on display at the Township from which residents may choose.

How the program works is that participants visit the Township Office at 739 Elm Street in Winnetka to choose a snowflake. The snowflake is exchanged for a corresponding wish list. The individual or family then fills the wish list by shopping for a few of the gifts that senior requested. Wrapped gifts are dropped off at the Township for delivery to the senior.
The seniors represented by the snowflakes are individuals who live on fixed incomes. The gifts they receive through this program will greatly brighten their holiday season. Some seniors receive as little as $700 per month out of which they must pay rent, utilities and medical costs--that leaves them very little for food and personal needs. Fulfilling these wish lists can be a simple task for a participant but also may be tremendously rewarding in the knowledge that one has eased the financial burden on an elderly person and given them a hoped for gift. Both recipients and donors remain anonymous in this process. Suggested spending is $50.
The snowflake art was designed by members of Our Place of New Trier Township, a local nonprofit whose mission is to support adults with developmental disabilities so that they can live productive, meaningful lives in their home community with family and friends. Residents are invited to come by the Township to see this lovely display and consider joining in this worthwhile effort.Date and Time
