Eric Maitlin is a 1978 graduate of The John Marshall Law School and has concentrated his law practice on estate planning for over 25 years.
Eric has helped thousands of families with their estate plans, always striving to achieve a meeting of the minds regarding clients’ goals and delivering quality representation to meet those goals. He believes in maximum transparency in pricing and service, which is why Matlin Law Group offers free initial estate planning consultations coupled with flat-fee pricing for most clients.
Eric enjoys teaching people about the importance of estate planning, including those who know they need it, but don’t understand its urgency. A critical takeaway from his book The Procrastinator’s Guide to Wills and Estate Planning (Penguin Group 2004) is that since many of life’s most momentous events are not calendar items, the time to plan is now.
His latest book, Not Dead Yet (so plan your estate) (Ozanam Publishing, 2017—Available at Amazon.com and MatlinLawGroup.com, is a serious estate planning handbook which includes a hand-drawn graphic novel that visually demonstrates the kind of nightmares that occur when people do not plan for life’s uncertainty and death’s finality.
Eric’s core philosophy is that estate planning benefits everyone — the amount of planning people need is just a matter of scale. Whether you are rich or poor, 18 or 108, the picture of good health or seriously ill, estate planning provides harmony and peace of mind, a gift to loved ones.
In addition to proselytizing about the need for estate planning, Eric is a board member of The Josselyn Center (www.josselyn.org), a community mental health resource provider located in Northfield and volunteers for CJE Senior Life at Lieberman Center. He enjoys his family, catching sunsets and moonrises over Lake Michigan, and practicing his ukulele.
