Monarch Mania and Butterfly Hatchery Tour! Join the Friends of the Green Bay Trail at the intersection of the Trail and Mary Street in Glencoe for a tour of its butterfly hatchery where the eggs, caterpillars, and pupae of the Monarch butterflies are protected from predators. Enjoy family and trail activities. Rain date is August 12. More info is available on Facebook and at gbtrail.org.
The State of Illinois is stepping up to help monarch butterflies’ population, habitat, and migrations. In 2016, the state passed a law to create a special Illinois license plate featuring a monarch butterfly decal. Proceeds from these special plates will fund milkweed planting, pollinator habitat development, and other projects to help monarchs, which are in significant decline. To ensure the plates are made, however, we need at least 2,000 Illinois residents to sign up to purchase the plates. Please purchase a plate through the link below and urge your friends and family in Illinois to request plates as well! https://www.nrdc.org/experts/rebecca-riley/save-monarchs-buy-license-plate
