First (Actually Second) Friday Art Opening

Vivid Art Gallery is hosting an exhibit for Featured Artist Patricia Dolan and her newest exhibit, Pélagos (Infinite Sea), throughout the month of September. Instead of our usual First Friday opening, given the Labor Day holiday, we will be having an opening on the second Friday of the month, September 8^th. The exhibit features large scale works that reflect on Patricia’s experiences of the beauty and serenity of the Aegean Sea in Greece. These paintings are influenced by her childhood spent experiencing the water’s ever-changing energy, its nuanced color, and its force.
 
Dolan, who is a Winnetka resident, paints with oils using a palette knife and brush to “sculpt” paint into her abstract representations of the Aegean Sea, part of the Mediterranean Sea. A first generation American of Greek descent, Dolan has spent part of every year at the Aegean coast.  Greek is her first language, and she titles all of her paintings in that language.  
 
Says Dolan, “As I interact with the paint, conversations between color, texture, mark, and rhythm arise, taking me into unexpected and unknown places. Giving voice to my long-standing relationship with the sea and my continued, on-going exploration, the canvas is where the connection between me and the outside world becomes one.” 
 
While the Aegean Sea in its many moods is her inspiration, Dolan also draws from her experiences around Lake Michigan.  Her paintings transcend any one place or body of water and are full of movement, color, and rhythm.
