New Trier High School's Amnesty International Club began promoting and planning their annual fundraising concert, Jamnesty, in collaboration with the Winnetka Youth Organization (WYO) during early January. Organized and developed through committed student efforts, the event will focus on bringing awareness to human rights issues. Jamnesty 2014 will take place at the WYO, located at 620 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka, on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 7:00pm. The student run benefit concert will feature five local teen bands and a dance performance by New Trier High School’s Indo Pak Club. Tickets will be sold through the club for $5.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door, with all profits being directed towards CARE, Doctors without Borders, Heifer International, and UNICEF.
New Trier High School student and one of the leaders of Amnesty International Club, Andrea Cho, spoke about the cause and ideas behind the benefit, “Amnesty International is a global activism organization that strives to aid the underrepresented. Our annual Jamnesty concert is one of our club's biggest events, and the money we raise could help a lot of people in need. People can come to this event to have a great time while supporting others. It's easy to help with Amnesty International because of the simplicity of raising funds and spreading awareness.”
