FLEE Bags, Winnetka’s newest Lincoln Avenue boutique, is now home to Chicago’s first “Drop Off” location for Blankets & Bowls ‘Merchant to Shelter’ Program. Blankets & Bowls collects and distributes much needed comfort items to improve living conditions in animal shelters and rescues across the country. Their merchant program utilizes public drop locations for community members to donate needed pet supplies. 

To kick off this effort on Thursday, October 18th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm, Flee bags will host an open house with internationally acclaimed veterinarian, author and Wilmette resident, Dr. Barbara Royal to sign copies of her recently released book, “THE ROYAL TREATMENT, A Natural Approach to Wildly Healthy Pets.” Dr. Royal, who counts Oprah Winfrey among her clients, combines the best of Western and Eastern medicine and practices how to restore animals (from rhinos and sea otters to our beloved pet dogs and cats) to optimal heath and happiness by bringing them back to their evolutionary roots, “you can take the animal out of the wild, but you can’t take the wild out of the animal.” The proof is in the incredible list of success stories profiled in her book - which will be available for signing and purchase during the event. She will also engage an informal discussion about her experiences out in the wild, at the zoos and at her Chicago-based Clinic, and will offer tips on nutritional and optimum care practices for keeping our domestic pets healthy.

FLEE, located at 561a Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, will have copies of “THE ROYAL TREATMENT” for ongoing sale and will be donating a percentage of book sales to Chicago area animal shelters and rescues. North Shore residents are invited to help kick off this effort by donating new or gently used items such as clean towels and small blankets, leashes, collars, stainless steel bowls, safe toys and crates which will provide daily comforts for homeless animals awaiting adoption.
