SUMMARY:Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
DESCRIPTION:Vivid Art Gallery is hosting an exhibit for Featured Artist Dorothy Alig and her newest exhibit\, Firmamental\, throughout the month of November. On the First Friday of the month\, November 3rd\, the gallery will be hosting an opening for Dorothy from 5-7 PM.\n\n \n\nDorothy is an Indiana artist who paints abstract landscapes inspired by a variety of processes in the natural environment. This exhibit continues that inspiration\, as it is influenced by two disparate natural phenomena. The first is the expansive nature of the sky above us\, containing as many as two trillion galaxies visible from Earth. The second is a process that occurs beneath us\, in which trees communicate subterraneously via networks of fungi. \n\n \n\nAlig's work has always revolved around a central theme. Discussing how these themes develop over time\, Alig states\, "One of the most satisfying things about being an artist is that you get to explore any topic that interests you at the moment and dive into it. I was very inspired by the Webb telescope images that came back to Earth in 2022 showing previously unknown galaxies and the nebula where new stars are born. In addition\, I recently read several books about the vast communication network that is present between trees underground\, something that I'd like to explore more. It is discoveries like these that influence my work to move in new directions\, such as in this exhibit." \n\n \n\nBeyond her affinity for nature\, another trademark of Alig's work is the inclusion of geometric forms. Alig says\, "I have an affinity for pattern\, which probably stems from my extensive background with historic textiles. A new body of work may start with some new screens that I make in my studio. Layering patterns with screen printing gives a certain kind of energy to the surfaces\, creates density and surprising color juxtapositions." These layered patterns are not limited to her geometric forms\, but permeate the entire work. \n\n \n\nIn addition to the opening at Vivid\, Hubbard Woods will be hosting its monthly First Friday event on November 3rd from 5-7 PM. Participating stores will feature special offers\, unique libations\, and more! Don't miss it!
