SUMMARY:Vivid Art Gallery First Friday Art Opening
DESCRIPTION:(Winnetka\, IL) Vivid Art Gallery will host an art opening for Featured Artist Susan Jacoby and Local Artist Amy Malcolm on November 2nd at its monthly First Friday event. The opening\, which runs from 5-8 PM\, is open to all and is free of charge. In addition to great art\, there will be refreshments\, including freshly baked biscotti and the gallery's signature "Morisot Mule" cocktail. Live jazz will also be playing at the gallery to round out the evening.\n\n \n\nJacoby will be presenting new work in her exhibit entitled the Shape of Sky. Working in oil on canvas\, she creates representational landscape paintings that reflect nature and particularly the sky. About her inspiration she says\, "Water and sky provide a wealth of ever-changing patterns. More important to me than the land\, water\, or sky is the light or atmospheric conditions like fog or bright light that blurs objects and allows others to emerge." Using vibrant blues\, oranges\, and greens\, Jacoby creates glass- smooth surfaces with no apparent brushstrokes. The result is paintings of great beauty and incredible calm.\n\n \n\nDiscussing external influences on her work\, Jacoby says\, "There is no end to the inspiration outside of our window and while I am always looking to that\, it is the visceral feeling that I want to communicate. Personally\, I would find it tedious to just perfectly render what I see I find it more engaging to distill the shapes\, colors and images into something more interesting. Above and beyond technical skills I believe art is about looking\, both in the outside world and inward\, and also teaching others how to see."\n\n \n\nAlso on display during the month of November will be works by Local Artist Amy Malcolm. Her exhibit\, titled Cordial\, will include her most recent paintings and drawings. Malcolm's works on paper are characterized by their cartoon qualities derived from her background working at DC Comics. She combines the mastery of spontaneous line rendering with narrative inspiration to concoct visual satire\, ultimately animating many of her drawings and paintings. Her work is fun and irreverent\, and thoroughly enjoyable!\n\n \n\nIn addition to the art opening at Vivid\, biscotti baker Debi Catenacci will be on hand to introduce her new book "Divine Biscotti\," a collection of 37 original and delicious biscotti recipes. Catenacci will have samples of two of her most popular flavors to share with visitors\, as well as signed copies of her book for sale. \n\n \n\nHubbard Woods will once again feature a First Friday "Cocktail Hop." Stop by Vivid to see the work of these two artists and our featured biscotti maker\, then browse the shops of Hubbard Woods. A number of neighborhood stores will be open and serving a signature drink. Details are available at www.shophubbardwoods.com.
