SUMMARY:Saturday Storytime with Author Theresa Dabney and "THE KID WHO WAS AFRAID OF WORDS"
DESCRIPTION:The Book Stall is delighted to host former teacher Theresa Dabney for a Storytime on Saturday\, Oct. 5th at 10:30 AM. She will be presenting her new book\, The Kid Who Was Afraid of Words. The idea for the book came to her during her first year of teaching\, when she noticed her fifth graders hated to read aloud. Theresa hopes young children see themselves in her hero\, Langston Longwordsworth. This program is geared toward ages 5 and up and is free and open to the public. Theresa will be happy to autograph her work!\n\n\n\nMore About the Book: Meet Langston Longwordsworth\, a kid who isn't afraid of much at all not rats\, bats\, bugs\, or even most girls. But there is one thing this budding young reader is afraid of--words! At school\, Langston employs a number of tricks to avoid having to read words that are unfamiliar to him. At home\, he simply shoves the books under his bed. Langston remains quite content with the way things are. Until\, one day\, he receives a book he just has to read. But on the first page\, Langston encounters a word he doesn't know\, and his beloved book joins the rest under his bed. It is in a dream that night that Langston discovers something extraordinary that helps him overcome his fear of unfamiliar words.\n\n\n\n"Delightfully engaging and brilliantly educational\, The Kid Who Was Afraid Of Words is a treat for young readers. It is inspiring and creative while supporting readers to joyfully engage with multi-syllabic words." Catherine Wang\, Glencoe School District 35 Superintendent of Schools\n\n\n\nMore About the Author: Theresa Dabney is a retired elementary language arts teacher who worked at Central School in Glencoe. You can hear Theresa read children's books aloud using different character voices and hear her original songs by visiting her YouTube channel: Read Aloud Storytime Sing Along Songtime.
