Celebrate Grandparents Day with Sarah Aronson and Laura Ruby at the Book Stall!
Grandparents Day is September 11th. We’ll be celebrating families in all shapes and sizes at The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) on Sunday, September 11 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm as we welcome acclaimed authors Sarah Aronson and Laura Ruby to the store. Sarah Aronson will be debuting her new picture book, Brand-New Bubbe. Over shared bowls of soup, Jillian realizes she just might have room in her heart for her new stepdad’s mother and her third grandmother, Bubbe. In Me and Ms. Too, another heartwarming picture book about blended families, Laura Ruby shares the story of Molly and her discovery that change might be a good thing as she begins to welcome Ms. Too into her family.
More About the Books: Brand-New Bubbe captures the warmth of blended family and honors the joys of cooking for the ones you love, complete with soup recipes. Jillian does not want another grandmother, she already has a Noni and a Gram, so when her mom marries Michael, she is distinctly cool to her new Bubbe. Over a mom-mandated matza ball soup making with Bubbe, she begins to realize she does have room for one more grandmother, but how can she convince Noni and Gram she still loves them just as much? Through a soup celebration, of course! Jillian brings together all three grandmothers for a super day of making matza ball, spicy gazpacho, and meatball soup and uniting all four in a love for their family.
Me and Ms. Too follows the uplifting tale of Molly as she learns to let her new stepmom, (and her former favorite school librarian), into her life. For as long as Molly can remember it was just her and her dad, who likes to splash in the pool, spin at the park, and bake the best cookies. But that was all before her dad married Ms. Too. And Ms. Too does not like to splash, does not like to spin, and cannot bake. Everything has changed, but as Molly comes discover, sometimes change doesn’t have to be scary and can be the best thing of all.
